The Detroit Tigers

I haven't really followed the baseball playoff this year as much as I usually do. Maybe it's because I'm disappointed that the Reds melted away and choked down the stretch. Maybe I'm just too preoccupied with other things. I'm not sure.

But I did watch a couple games of the Oakland-Detroit series, including nearly all of game four on Sunday. I found myself pulling for the Tigers. I emphasize with them and their fans since like the Reds, they haven't been to the playoffs in a long time. Plus they are a small market team like the Reds. So I guess the Tigers and Reds have a bunch in common and that's why I'm rooting for them.

The Tigers had an incredible season, even with their terrible last third of the season, which saw them go from baseball's best team to the AL Wild Card Winner. They were a team that was just three years removed from losing 119 games and a year removed from losing 90. An afterthought in the AL Central during Spring Training, they are now pennant winners.

They are on a roll, eliminating the Yankees (excellent!) and sweeping the A's. Not only am I rooting from them to win the World Series (which is unusual since I'm a NL boy), but I think they will. Go Tigers!
