To all of those friendly people who posted comments in response to my MLS post,
Wow. Your responses, with the notable exception of two reasoned posts, were just as pathetic as the game you love. Since you don't have facts on your side, you resorted to personal attacks on me. Very mature. So what if I'm a college student and I'm here in DC interning this summer. Does that make my observations invalid?
I'm entitled to my opinion. You are entitled to yours. There was nothing "uninformed" or "communist" about my post . It was my observation after going to one game. There were not 15,000 people in RFK. We all know that. They may have sold 15,000 tickets, but that's very different from 15,000 people being there. The place was almost empty.
The MLS is not very popular in DC or across the United States. That is a fact. In DC, they are the fifth team behind the Redskins, Wizards, Nationals, and Capitals. Sure you can say the sport is growing, but that's what unpopular sports everywhere say (see Major League Lacrosse). Even with Beckham coming to the MLS, it's still an afterthought. Wow, a washed up European star. I'm impressed.
So keep attacking me or my writing. That is your right. If you enjoy going to the games and can defend the MLS rationally, good for you. I respect that. But if all you are going to do is go to the games, get trashed, act like a moron, and then launch ad hominem attacks on me while responding to my post in the middle of the work day, shut up and get a real job.

That was an ad hominem attack. You know, just to throw that out there.
You are entitled to your opinion.
One of the bigger problems here is that, as you say, MLS is a "growing" professional sport. But how many people do you see taking the time to write articles, blogs, posts, whatever, about how MLL is pathetic cause no one goes to the games? Soccer fans are very defensive about this sport because we see/hear it getting bashed all the time.
Another problem is that, as you say, you went to one game. Your immediate assumption because you'd rather be a quiet, couch-potato fan is that no one goes and the fans who do go are loud obnoxious jerks is that the sport and the league itself suck. Forget going to ONE DC game, have you ever seen ANY other games on TV? Watch Toronto play someone at home and tell me no one cares and the league isn't growing.
Three more quick points:
1) Beckham is not washed up. Just ask Brazil, Barcelona, or a multitude of teams he played against in the last six months. He's probably playing better now than he has in years, which is why the most successful team in the world was desperate to keep him.
2) As long as DC United is getting more fans than at least one major league baseball team while playing in a non-soccer-specific, old stadium, I don't want to hear anything about attendance.
3) Better yet, to each his own... but if you're going to call out a sport with some of the most passionate fans, don't whine about them responding to it.
You attack soccer, and its fans. You launch into an uninformed diatribe, filled with errors, such as grossly erroneous attedance speculations (I see many facts were posted to refute your exaggerated claims - such as lists of attendance figures..etc)
The number of years the league has been in existance...etc and so on. Your posting is nothing more than someone who does not like a sport, attemtping to pick it apart, and make it look like what you would want it to look like. I can assure you, that you will fail, and already have. You have ZERO Credibility, espeically when you cannot even get facts straight.
I attend every D.C. United home match. I see the people there, and rest assured those figures of 18,19,20,21,24,26,000, are not inflations. There actually really are THAT many people in the stands.
Soccer isnt popluar in DC? ITs very very obvious you have paid ZERO attention to MLS, espeically in DC. This is one of, if not the biggest market in MLS. I would say go look at the league and DC's attendance figures over the years, but that would require you to deal with FACTS wich of course you have demonstrated that you are unable to do. All you would do is exaggerate your 1 game experience in a vain attempt to skew things in your favor.
It seems to me, that you cannot handle critisism of your factless, incorrect, and largely vitirolic, hyperbolic post. Its very clear to those who read anything you have to say in regards to MLS, is nothing more than the opinion of someone who just does not like soccer at all.
Again, MLS, and its fans, dont want people like you attending, so please, do yourself, and the rest of us a favor, and STAY AWAY from MLS and DC United.
Once again, grow up, and get a clue. If this is how you are going to conduct yourself in Washington, D.C. , you definately will not last long in this town. Youll be running home with your tail between your legs.
